Hi! My name is Lisa (she/her/ella) and I'm super passionate about working with teens and young adults from diverse backgrounds. I recognize that opening up to someone and sharing your personal vulnerabilities can feel scary and can even come with some resistance. I am a therapist who is intentionally compassionate and kind where you can feel at ease and in control of your treatment with a person who feels like a real, relatable human being. I enjoy having a collaborative approach in my sessions where you will feel confident to express your needs, have guidance to identify realistic goals, and learn more about yourself. I find that this approach creates a sense of trust in our therapeutic relationship, allowing you to show up as your authentic self and be open to stepping out of your comfort zone to move towards a healthier state of being.
My Approach:
I utilize a variety of therapy modalities but I cater the interventions used based on your readiness, learning style, emotional capacity, and cultural context. It's very important to me that you feel comfortable with the interventions or therapy style used in your treatment where it feels effective, genuine, and compatible with you. Therapy modalities that I have used are Culturally Adapted-CBT, TF-CBT, Exposure Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, EMDR, Sandtray Therapy, Play Therapy, and more.
In our sessions we may work on learning practical skills to address current emotional and or relational difficulties, explore past experiences that influence your current belief system about yourself and the world, learn skills to regulate your nervous system and identify barriers preventing you from reaching your goals. I provide education to help increase understanding of your own emotional or behavioral reactions. I normalize your experience when appropriate to help you feel connected to the greater human experience. My ultimate goal is for you to feel that you have a person that you can trust to be a part of your team navigating all of life's challenges.
What to Expect:
In our first few sessions, I will be focusing on getting to know you as a whole person, including your area of needs, strengths, values, skills, and overall personality. I have a warm, relational, and empathetic style as a therapist. I love when we can laugh at ourselves in session or acknowledge when things seem silly. I always meet my clients where they're at while continually trying to push them forward in a way that feels appropriate for them. I never shame my clients no matter what and this has allowed them to be vulnerable, not fear judgement, and come to session sharing their truths, doubts, and small victories. My tweens/teens can expect their confidentiality to be respected at all times and they will have a say in what is communicated to parents (non-safety related). Lastly, you can expect a therapist who listens to you, takes feedback, and will thoughtfully create a therapy space that works best for you!
