With Virtual Teen Therapy Available Across Texas
Are you a parent looking for a therapist for your teen in Austin? Or maybe you're a teen yourself, trying to figure out if therapy is even worth it? Either way, we're really glad you found us. At Sin Miedo Counseling, we offer therapy for tweens, teens, and young adults (ages 10–25) in person in Austin, Texas and online across Texas.
Being a teenager is a lot right now. The pressure to have it all figured out, the weight of friendships and family, the stress of school — and underneath all of that, sometimes something deeper that's harder to name. You don't have to have the right words for it yet. That's what we're here for.
What Brings Teens to Therapy
Teens come to us for all kinds of reasons. Some of the things we commonly work on together include:
Anxiety, social anxiety, perfectionism, and panic attacks
Depression, low self-esteem, and that inner critic that gets too loud to ignore
Trauma, including difficult family experiences or things that happened in childhood
Identity exploration, including navigating bi-cultural identity or LGBTQIA+ identity
Friendship changes, relationship stress, and the feeling of not belonging
Big life transitions like starting high school, moving, or changes at home
Being first-generation and feeling caught between two worlds
If any of these things resonate, or even sound like something your teen could get some support around, we are happy to consult to see if Lisa Batres, LCSW-S, might be a good fit!
Therapy That Finds Comfort in the Discomfort
I know therapy can feel awkward, especially at first. A lot of teens come in a little guarded, and that's completely okay. My goal isn't to push you to open up before you're ready. It's to be someone you actually want to talk to.
In my sessions, you're in control. We move at your pace. Your confidentiality is respected, and you'll have a say in what gets shared with your parents (anything outside of safety concerns stays between us). I want you to feel like you can bring your real self in here, doubts and small victories and all.
I also just want to be honest: I'm not going to sit across from you with a clipboard and a blank stare. I'm a real person. Sometimes we'll laugh in session. Sometimes things will feel hard. Both are okay, and both are part of the work.
Working with Lisa Batres, LCSW
Hi, I'm Lisa (she/her/ella)! I'm a bilingual Salvadoran-Peruvian-American therapist and I'm genuinely, deeply passionate about working with teens and young adults. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Boston College, where I found my passion for working with children and teens from diverse backgrounds. I grew up in northern Virginia, spent a couple of years in Boston, and have been proud to call Austin home since 2022.
Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping children, teens, and their families get through moments of crisis, repair relationships, and work toward the changes they actually want in their lives. I bring a compassionate, collaborative approach to every session. I want you to feel like you have someone genuinely in your corner, not just someone you're reporting to.
I use a range of approaches depending on what fits you best, including:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused CBT to work through difficult experiences and shift patterns that are keeping you stuck
EMDR (including EMDR for children and teens) for processing trauma without having to walk through every painful detail out loud
Play therapy, sandtray, and art-based therapy for younger tweens or anyone who expresses themselves better through creativity than conversation
Solution-Focused Therapy for when you want practical tools to deal with what's happening right now
Nervous system regulation skills so you can start to understand your own reactions and find some steadiness in the hard moments
Whatever we use, it'll be chosen together, based on what actually feels right for you.
Therapy for BIPOC, First-generation, and Bilingual Teens
For teens navigating life at the intersection of cultures, there's an extra layer to figuring out who you are and finding where you belong. The pressure of being a first-generation kid, the experience of code-switching, feeling caught between your family's world and everything outside your front door deserves space in therapy.
I get it, not just professionally but personally. As a bilingual, first-generation Latina therapist, I bring that lived understanding into every session. I offer therapy in both English and Spanish, and my hope is that you will feel seen and heard in therapy.
In-person Sessions on Fridays and Sundays in Austin
Getting teens to appointments during the school week can get tricky, I get it. That's why I offer in-person sessions in Austin on Fridays and Sundays, so therapy can actually fit into your family's life without adding more chaos to an already full week. Virtual sessions are also available across Texas and Virginia for families who prefer the flexibility of meeting from home.
